Mob intimidation near EFLU: letter to Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad
To
Sri V. C. Sajjanar, IPS
Commissioner of Police
Hyderabad City Police
Hyderabad
Date: 31 October 2025
Subject: Request for immediate police action against mob intimidation near EFLU, Hyderabad
Respected Sir,
The Centre for Liberty writes to express serious concern regarding the recent incident of mob intimidation near EFLU, Hyderabad, targeting Joshyettan’s Kerala Thattukada, a lawful restaurant operating in the area.
According to reports, a group of individuals associated with self-styled “cow-protection” outfits forcibly intimidated the restaurant staff and disrupted business operations on the pretext that beef dishes were being served. This is despite the fact that the sale and consumption of beef (from ox) and buffalo meat are lawful in Telangana.
Such acts of mob coercion constitute a direct challenge to public order and the rule of law. Allowing private groups to enforce their ideological preferences through threats or violence risks normalising vigilantism and undermining citizens’ confidence in law enforcement institutions.
We respectfully request that the Hyderabad City Police:
- Register appropriate cases and investigate the incident without delay.
- Identify and prosecute those involved in the intimidation and disruption.
- Provide protection to the affected business owners and staff to ensure that lawful commercial activity can continue without fear.
- Issue clear instructions to field officers to prevent similar incidents and ensure swift intervention against any form of vigilantism.
Firm and impartial police action in such cases is essential to preserve public order, protect individual rights, and deter future incidents of mob intimidation.
We trust that the Hyderabad City Police will take all necessary steps in accordance with the law.
Yours sincerely,
Ajay Mallareddy
